Water woes as electrical issue affects Desal Plant

An electrical problem at the Desalination Plant in Point Lisas is causing water supply issues, especially to areas in Central and Southwest Trinidad.

Around 2pm on Saturday, there was a stoppage of the plant and it was later restarted partially overnight.

However, WASA says it was told by Desalcott that further assessment and repairs will be required to return the facility to full production.

The plant ususaly supplies WASA with 40 million gallons of water per day to help the supply to Central and South Trinidad, but it is currently operating at half capacity.

WASA says the normal daily or scheduled supply to the following areas will be affected: Caroni, Warrenville, Cunupia, Chaguanas, Caparo, Chase Village, Couva, Point Lisas, California, Claxton Bay, Plaisance Park, Pointe a Pierre, City of San Fernando, Vistabella, Marabella, Gasparillo, South West Union Hall, Pleasantville, Palmiste, Phillipine, Duncan Village, Esperance, Gulf View, Bel Air, La Romain, South Oropouche, Otaheite, Rousillac, Aripero, parts of La Brea, Avocat, Fyzabad, parts of Siparia including De Gannes Village and Quarry Village, San Francique, Debe, Syne Village, Lowkie Trace, Sunrees Road, Mora Dam Road.

WASA and Desalcott are expected to address the media on Sunday afternoon to give an update on the situation.
