WASA: Works ongoing to address water issues in Freeport, Gran Couva and environs

WASA says it is working on issues affecting the water supply to Freeport, Gran Couva and surrounding areas.

It notes that Freeport Todd’s Road Well #19 suffered a breach in its casing on November 27th, rendering it inoperable and resulting in a shortfall of close to 750,000 gallons of water per day.

During repairs to Well #19, leaks occurred on Well #18 on December 21st and 22nd.

WASA says these leaks have since been addressed and assessment works on Well #19 resumed as of December 27th.

The water company says mitigation measures are being utilized including the possibility of supplementary supply from the Caroni Water Treatment Plant by January 6th, 2025.

Additionally, WASA says, “To manage the reduced water production, we have implemented a rotational supply system. The Gran Couva area received water until midnight on December 30th, after which the supply was redirected to Chickland, and will thereafter move to Christian Village, Preysal, and Calcutta.”
