WASA urges water conservation amid “dry season challenges”

WASA is urging persons to save water due to dry season challenges.

According to the Authority, while T&T’s reservoirs are at manageable levels, decreased rainfall activity has led to a decline in those levels.

As of today, the Hillsborough Reservoir in Tobago stands at 94.7%, which is marginally above its long term average of 77.8%.

Hollis is currently at 77.8% which is closely aligned with its long-term average of 76.69%, while Navet is at 76.05%, which is slightly above its long-term average of 74.57%.

The Caroni-Arena Dam however is currently at 74%, which is significantly below its long-term average of 84.30%.

WASA says these figures underscore the importance of collective action to conserve water during this period.

It has recommended simple actions such as fixing leaks, reducing water usage during non-essential activities, and practicing water-saving habits.

It also insists that it is well-prepared to manage the country’s water resources effectively, with teams actively monitoring reservoir levels, optimizing distribution systems, and implementing contingency measures to mitigate the impact of prolonged dry spells.
