WASA: projects underway to improve supply to Woodland, San Francique

WASA says it is undertaking an infrastructural upgrade project to install a 400mm pipeline along Pluck Rd in Woodland and a 300mm pipeline along Antilles Trace in San Francique.

These, it adds, will transmit increased volumes of water to this zone.

The statement comes on the heels of a protest held by residents in these areas yesterday over the unreliability of their water supply.

Responding to queries from 103.1FM News, a WASA official said Tenant Trace, Ramcharan Trace, Chickoree Trace, parts of Pluck Road and parts of San Francique are served by the Caroni/Desalcott system via Thicke Village Booster, where a supply-demand deficit exists.

As such, it says additional water is needed to improve the supply to customers in these areas.

It also cited recent repairs to a 28inch transmission main at Rushworth Street in San Fernando between March 7th and 9th, which delayed the schedules to areas served by Thicke Village Booster.

WASA adds that the supply has been on to the listed areas from March 10th to present, with the extremities/elevated areas expected to receive a supply between March 13th to 14th.

As for the infrastructural upgrade, it says the project involves:

• Installation of 4500m of 400mm DI Main from M2 main Road to Tenant Trace.
• Installation of 1900m of 300mm DI Main from Tennant Trace through Antilles Trace San Francique.

This project is in progress and expected to be completed by end April 2025.

It is expected to improve the level of service to the above communities from 1/9 to a minimum of 24/2.
