WASA has responded to social media images showing a company tanker discharging a substance into the Diego Martin River.
It says an investigation found that the substance was not sewage, but grey water from a job being conducted at the time in Port of Spain.
WASA says while the water was not harmful to public health or the environment, it was handled in a way that does not conform to the strictest standards by which the Authority is guided.
As such, it says steps will be taken to hold the person or persons involved accountable for their actions.
It also assures that both the water supply and wastewater systems remain uncompromised.
According to Merriam-Webster, grey water is wastewater that does not contain serious contaminants (such as fecal matter).
