Voluntary recall of select H-E-B, Van Camp’s, Genova, Trader Joe’s canned tuna

The Health Ministry is advising of a voluntary recall notice for select lots of canned tuna products sold under the H-E-B, Van Camp’s, Genova, and Trader Joe’s brand names.

This voluntary recall was issued by Tri-Union Seafoods after it received notification that the “easy open” pull tab lid on limited products encountered a manufacturing defect.

This defect, it adds, may compromise the integrity of the product seal, causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning”.

The Ministry says while these brands are not common in T&T, those who may be in possession of the recalled product(s) are urged to discontinue its use.

The Ministry says no illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported at this time.
