One expert says recent earthquake activity in the Caribbean is within the natural sequence of events.
15 tremors were reported in the last few days by the UWI Seismic Research Centre’s Automatic Earthquake Location, mostly near the islands higher up the archipelago from T&T.
103.1FM News spoke today with Dr Erouscilla Joseph, Director of the UWI-SRC, who explains that the Lesser Antilles arc is located in a subduction zone that experiences thousands of earthquakes annually.
She adds that such activity is not unusual.
Dr Joseph reminds that there is no way to predict when or where an earthquake will occur.
As such, she says the best thing is for persons to be prepared.
Under its Automatic Earthquake Location, UWI-SRC issues a public report for any earthquake that is magnitude 3.5 or higher.
