There were two earthquakes in Central Trinidad this morning, starting with a magnitude 2.9 earthquake with the epicentre near Chaguanas around 2:57am.
This has been confirmed by the UWI Seismic Research Centre in a Facebook post at 5:32am which followed hours of online speculation as to what caused the jolt felt primarily in Central Trinidad.
The earthquake had a depth of just 3km.
Then around 5:07am, there was another earthquake measuring magnitude 2.7 around the same area.
