The University of the West Indies, St Augustine has extended condolences on the passing of Helen Bhagwansingh.

Mrs Bhagwansingh died today at the age of 83.

In its tribute, UWI says she stood out in a predominantly male-dominated business realm, not just as a woman, but as an icon who redefined the norms of entrepreneurship.

It also reminds that her contributions were not limited to the realm of business.

The University says Mrs Bhagwansingh facilitated the establishment of the Diabetes Education Research and Prevention Institute at the University.

It adds that her legacy encapsulates the essence of a remarkable woman, a visionary mind, and a compassionate heart.

Among her many accolades, Mrs Bhagwansingh was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree by UWI St Augustine in 2011.
