UWI lecturer Dr. Craig Ramlal has been appointed by the UN Secretary-General to the Multistakeholder High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
The appointment follows a global request for artificial intelligence professionals.
2,000 nominees from 128 countries were put forward, with 38 members selected from all continents.
The advisory body’s collective knowledge ensures a comprehensive and well-informed approach to the global development, implementation, and governance of AI technology.
Their recommendations will also be crucial in enabling governments and corporations to properly react to the expanding world of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Ramlal is a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UWI’s St Augustine Campus.
He joins a distinguished group of AI experts that includes Mira Murati – Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI; James Manyika – Senior Vice President of Google-Alphabet & President for Research, Technology, and Society; Natasha Crampton – Chief Responsible AI Officer at Microsoft; Omar Sultan Al Olama – UAE Minister of State for AI; and Carme Artigas – Secretary of State for Digitalization and AI in Spain.
