A No Thoroughfare Policy will continue to be enforced at the UWI St Augustine Campus.
Implemented in 2016, the policy restricts access to the campus, allowing only staff, students, and authorized individuals conducting business.
Classes resumed yesterday and effective immediately, the University says from Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays, only authorized vehicles displaying valid UWI Vehicle Permits will be allowed entry via the North and South Entrances.
Vehicles lacking valid permits will be redirected to the Visitors’ Entrance, known as the Daaga Gate, where enhanced screening will be carried out.
Additionally, the following measures will be in effect from September 4th to October 25th 2023:
- Additional UWI Estate Police Officers will be on duty at the North, South, Daaga, and Heart Ease Gates from 7am to 7pm on Mondays to Fridays.
- Police officers will collaborate with UWI Estate Police to manage vehicular traffic congestion on and around the campus.
- The Daaga Gate (Visitor’s Entrance) will be open for entry between 7am and 9:30am on Mondays to Fridays. During this timeframe, one-way vehicular traffic will be enforced from east to west along the section of Lewis Avenue between the Daaga Gate and the junction of Lewis Avenue and Wooding Drive (adjacent to the tennis court).
- UWI Estate Police Officers will be stationed at the northern junction of Lewis Avenue and Wooding Drive, as well as at the junction in front of the Daaga Auditorium, from 7am to 9:30am on Mondays to Fridays to manage vehicular traffic. All motorists are kindly requested to follow their guidance.
- This policy will be strictly enforced to enhance control and monitoring of individuals and vehicles accessing the campus, thereby elevating safety and security standards for all users.
Members of the general public accustomed to using campus roads as a thoroughfare are encouraged to seek alternative routes.
