US Congressional representatives have pledged to conduct more scanning of port containers leaving their country.

US Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries led a delegation to T&T this week during the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference.

It comes as regional leaders expressed concern that the US should do more to prevent the illegal entry of firearms to the Caribbean.

During a media conference this afternoon with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, US Representative Yvette Clarke said the technology is available to scan containers.

Meanwhile, Mr Jeffries confirmed that the US has implemented the necessary legislation to combat the trafficking of firearms.

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, who is also in T&T, said the Biden administration has appointed a special prosecutor to charge gun traffickers.
