In the midst of the ongoing trade war between the US and Canada, both leaders have described today’s talks as productive and constructive.
However, Canadian leader Mark Carney said the retaliatory tariffs scheduled to come into effect on April 2nd will still be implemented.
He added that it will be done to protect Canadian workers and the economy.
In a Truth Social post, Mr Trump said that the two will meet “immediately” after Canada’s April 28th election to continue discussions on politics, business and all other factors.
Recently, the US imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, along with a 25% duty on all aluminium and steel imports, while Canada retaliated with tariffs on US goods.
