The Met Service says while it has received reports of hail today in Piarco, these have not been verified.

103.1FM News spoke with Meteorologist Gary Benjamin who says a very isolated intense thunderstorm took place in the area today, as forecast.

He explains that almost all such storms would have some form of ice in the centre of the cloud, however T&T is so warm that this ice tends to melt.

He adds however that sometimes the storms are so intense that the ice reaches the ground.

Mr Benjamin says today’s reported hail has not been verified by either trained observers or with photos/videos.

Mr Benjamin also responded to a radar picture of the storm, saying this cannot be used to confirm the report of hail as it is not conclusive evidence.

Hail has been reported in T&T several times before.
