A federation of trade unions believes the 2024 national budget fell “woefully short” in meeting the needs of people of a lower income.
It addressed the $3 increase in minimum wage, saying this was a blatant insult to workers who can barely cover rent as it stands.
The federation also said there was no consideration for reviewing the 4% wage increase offer for unions who have not settled negotiations.
It is also challenging the Finance Minister’s statement regarding support for the proposed increase in the retirement age to 65.
It insisted that the labour movement has been vocal against such a move.
The federation consists of JTUM, NATUC and FITUN.
