UNC has little faith in PM to negotiate with US on OFAC licences

The UNC has no faith in a promise by Prime Minister Stuart Young to negotiate with the US Government on the OFAC licence for the Dragon and Cocuina-Manakin fields.

Yesterday, in announcing the revocation of those licences by the US, Mr Young said there was an avenue by which Government can make an application regarding the move.

At a media conference today, UNC Chairman Dave Tancoo said he has little confidence since the licenses were revoked just two weeks after Mr Young himself met with the US Secretary of State on that very matter.

Mr Tancoo also denied claims by the PNM that a UNC Government would devalue the TT dollar.

He insists this is not true and accused Mr Young and his party of spreading “fear”.
