UNC forms coalition with PEP, other parties

The UNC will not be contesting this year’s General Elections alone, as a Coalition of Interest with other political entities was announced last evening.

The other organizations involved include the Progressive Empowerment Party, the LOVE movement, the OWTU and other unions.

Candidates from the various organizations would be presented under the UNC banner at the elections, but the strategy of allocating the candidates to contest the appropriate seats has not yet been finalized.

PEP leader Philip Edward Alexander speaking at the media conference, said T&T was broken and only the UNC commands the numbers that are required to remove the PNM.

And, OWTU Ancel Roget said what motivated the union’s interest in this coalition was because T&T is in deep crisis.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar affirmed the UNC’s readiness to partner with anyone committed to improving Trinidad and Tobago.

However, She said, the UNC was not interested in working with the National Transformation Alliance led by Gary Griffith.

However, while the doors are not closed to the COP, she said they are yet to have discussions.
