UN Security Council to vote on ceasefire in Gaza for Ramadan

The U.N. Security Council is set to vote on a resolution demanding a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.

The United States however believes the measure could hurt negotiations to halt IsraeliHamas hostilities.

Associated Press says the resolution, put forward by the 10 elected council members, is backed by Russia and China, which recently vetoed a U.S.sponsored resolution that supported “an immediate and sustained ceasefire” in the IsraelHamas war.

The council is expected to vote on the resolution Monday morning.

AP says it was earlier scheduled for Saturday morning, but was delayed.

Ramadan began on March 10th and is expected to end on April 9th.
