The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution to recognise August 11th annually as World Steelpan Day.

Confirmation of this came from Pan Trinbago and Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell, shortly after the resolution was heard at the assembly’s meeting.

Speaking to the assembly, Minister Mitchell recounted the history of the instrument and its importance to local culture and arts.

Accompanying the Minister to the UN Assembly were members of Pan Trinbago, musician Dr Ray Holman and Artistic Director of the National Steel Symphony Orchestra Kareem Brown.
