Americans have gathered to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11, 22 years after the deadliest terror attacks on US soil.
Commemorations were held on Monday at the sites of the attack: New York’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where a plane crashed into a field after passengers overpowered the hijackers.
Relatives also read aloud the names of nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the attacks.
BBC News says U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris joined victims’ families at the 9/11 memorial in New York, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center fell.
President Joe Biden chose to mark the day in Alaska.
Across the country, there were moments of silence, tolling bells, candlelight vigils and other activities.
