Two students at The UWI St Augustine awarded 2024 Fullerton-Long Scholarships

Two students at The University of the West Indies have been awarded the prestigious 2024 Fullerton-Long Caribbean Scholarships.

They are: Ana Duque-Hosein – a Year 2 student, and Kassia Blake – a Year 3 student.

Both are from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Each will receive a scholarship valued at USD $2,150, recognizing their academic excellence and commitment to their studies.

The scholarships were awarded by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries IFoA Foundation, and were established by The UWI alumni and UK-based actuaries, Andrew Long and Norbert Fullerton.

Mr. Fullerton, a 1993 UWI Mona Mathematics graduate, is Head of Institutional Client Strategy for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Janus Henderson Investments, while Mr. Long, who graduated in 1994 with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, is Managing Director at Willis Towers Watson.

The scholarships were launched at The UWI Mona in 2020, and expanded to The UWI St. Augustine in 2021.

The Fullerton-Long Scholarships have since provided support to two students from both campuses annually.

To be eligible, recipients must be Commonwealth Caribbean citizens, enrolled full-time in the BSc Actuarial Science programme, have a minimum GPA of 3.3, and demonstrate strong leadership and community involvement.
