Two charged for praedial larceny offences

Two men have been charged after being held by the Praedial Larceny Squad.

Recently, the Squad interviewed roadside vendors verify the lawful acquisition of agricultural produce.

During this time, a man in possession of nearly 1,000 portugals and other fruits was held after failing to account for how he obtained the items.

The suspect, a 59-year-old man from Matura, was subsequently granted bail and is scheduled to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on January 18th 2024.

Meanwhile in a separate operation on Blanchisseuse Road in Arima, the Squad held a suspect after weeks of complaints from residents about stolen produce.

The man, named as Siew Persad Ramdass, has a history of previous convictions for praedial larceny.

On January 9th 2024, he reportedly pleaded guilty to charges of being found on cultivated lands and larceny of agricultural produce.

He was sentenced to six months hard labour for the first charge and nine months hard labour for the second, with the sentences to run concurrently.
