With the Wet Season underway, the TTPS is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly in light of an increase in road traffic fatalities.
It warns that wet and slippery roads are now a daily reality, with the dangers of speeding now significantly heightened.
The TTPS says excessive speed greatly reduces reaction time, increases braking distance, and elevates the risk of serious collisions—often with fatal consequences.
It is also calling on drivers to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles, especially their tyres, which play a critical role in maintaining traction on wet surfaces.
It says worn tyres drastically increase the risk of skidding and hydroplaning.
