TTPS: troubling drunk driving trend

The TTPS says it has noticed a troubling trend of motorists exceeding the legal alcohol limit.

It says over a 48-hour period this past weekend, three persons were held for driving under the influence during traffic exercises along the Churchill Roosevelt, Uriah Butler and Sir Solomon Hochoy highways.

It says while the legal blood alcohol concentration limit in T&T is 35 micrograms of alcohol to 100 millilitre of breath, numerous drivers have been detected far above this threshold.

It also warns that the spike in drunk driving incidents has coincided with an increase in road traffic fatalities in 2024.

It is now issuing a stern warning to all motorists to strictly adhere to road laws, particularly those regarding driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
