Police exercises held this morning were part of efforts to address crime and not “total policing” by officers.

This statement comes today from DCP – Operations Junior Benjamin, via the TTPS’ Corporate Communications Department.

Exercises were held concurrently in a number of areas, leading to much speculation that it was a form of action by disgruntled officers.

Messages stating such also began circulating, with some persons remembering a “Day of Total Policing” in 2015 in which a number of roadblocks were held simultaneously, allegedly to protest the slow pace of wage negotiations.

103.1FM News was told however that the exercises were legitimate and in keeping with a statement made during a TTPS media briefing on Sunday evening by DCP Benjamin, who said police patrols will be ramped up.

Our newsroom was also told that there will continue to be exercises and other initiatives aimed at addressing criminal activity.
