The TTPS says steps are being taken to find the location and parents of a young child shown in a video with a puppy.

Screenshots from the video were shared on social media along with claims that the puppy died after being sat on and stifled with a cushion by the toddler.

103.1FM News was told by a police official that Western Division, with the support of the Child Protection Unit and the Children’s Authority, is working to locate the address where the incident occurred to determine the facts.

We were also told that appropriate measures, such as counseling or other interventions, will be pursued following the outcome of these investigations.

The TTPS reminds that under Section 79 of the Summary Offences Act, Chapter 11:02, it is a criminal offence for any person to cruelly beat, ill-treat, starve, override, overload, abuse, or torture an animal.

Anyone found guilty of such offences is liable to a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for one year.

It also points out that the legal doctrine Doli Incapax stipulates that a child under the age of eight is incapable of committing a crime.

The TTPS is urging parents and guardians to supervise the activities of those under their care, as negligence in this regard may result in legal culpability, including aiding and abetting an unlawful act.
