TTPS confirms 23 illegally installed surveillance cameras removed

23 unlawfully installed surveillance cameras have been removed by the Police Service.

The TTPS says this was done between 8:30am and 10:30am on April 10th.

The cameras had been affixed to T&TEC light poles: 13 were at Monte Grande in Tunapuna, while 10 were at Bassanta Trace, St. John Road in St. Augustine.

The TTPS says it conducted “a decisive intelligence-led operation, aimed at preserving the integrity of crime-fighting efforts within the North Central Division.”

It adds that the exercise was a coordinated effort, carried out by officers from the Tunapuna Criminal Investigations Department, Northern Division Task Force – West, T&TEC Estate Police, and T&TEC Emergency Unit.

All 23 confiscated cameras have been taken to the Tunapuna Police Station for further processing.

The TTPS warns that mounting cameras or any other equipment on T&TEC poles necessitates explicit written authorization from T&TEC. DCP Intelligence and Investigation, Suzette Martin has appointed a team to continue investigations into this matter.
