The top heads of the TTPS have claimed success during the State of Emergency, which ended on Sunday.
At today’s police briefing, Acting Police Commissioner Junior Benjamin said he was pleased with the outcome of the SOE, which was imposed to manage a crime surge at the end of 2024.
According to him, there was a reduction in overall crime figures.
The Top COP commended all the officers attributed strong leadership and key strategies implemented by the TTPS to the success of the SOE.
Meanwhile, according to the stats, of the 4,038 persons arrested during the SoE, 67 have so far been charged for offenses ranging from illegal possession of firearms to gang related offenses.
Also speaking was Deputy Police Commissioner Curt Simon, who said the period of the SoE saw 5,192 operations, 36,000 searches, more than 17,000 traffic offenses and over 4,000 arrests.
Deputy Police Commissioner Suzette Martin added that of the 50 persons who were held on preventative detentions orders, 11 have been charged, adding that 39 persons have been released but investigations continue into their matters and charges are expected to be made soon.
