TTPS appeals for greater caution on nation’s roads

Police are appealing to drivers to exercise greater caution on the nation’s roads after two motorists died in separate accidents yesterday.

In the first incident, 33-year-old Terell Brown of Claxton Bay died after his vehicle crashed into a concrete wall along Hermitage Road around 1:30am.

Then, around 10:40pm, 42-year-old Sangre Grande resident Amrit Nowbut was killed when his vehicle collided with a maxi-taxi along the Eastern Main Road, Valencia.

According to the TTPS, the number of road traffic deaths for 2023 is now 58, when compared to 62 during the same period last year.

However, TTPS Road Safety Coordinator Sergeant Brent Batson says officers continue to witness reckless driving and intoxicated drivers, with 48 motorists charged for DUI over the last month.

The Traffic & Highway Patrol Branch also intends to increase road policing operations along the highways and divisional main roads to ensure that drivers obey the rules.
