TTPS – 110 arrested for ‘home invasions’

The Police Service says 110 persons were arrested over the last eight months in connection with reports of ‘home invasions’.

In a statement, it says these arrests are due to strategies adopted by Police Commissioner Erla Christopher to address reports of robberies, house breakings, burglaries and gang-related offences.

Among the strategies is a team of officers that uses intelligence-led policing and analysis to guide the deployment of resources.

The TTPS adds that between January to July this year, a reduction in serious crimes was recorded across all 10 policing divisions, when compared to the same period in 2022.

While increased patrols are deterring criminals, police say citizen information is also important, via Community Watch Groups, Station Council meetings and hotline tips.

The TTPS also issued the following safety tips to secure homes, properties and possessions:

  • Illuminate or eliminate all areas around your house where an intruder can hide or gain access.
  • All exterior doors should be solid and made from materials such as fibreglass or solid wood. For maximum security, all doors should be windowless.
  • Install deadbolt locks.
  • Secure gates after you use them.
  • Add security cameras around your home.
  • Keep emergency numbers – 999, 555 and your district police station on speed dial.
