TTMS: T&T is in its heat season

T&T is in its heat season which runs from May to October every year.

The Met Service says the tropical Atlantic Ocean east of T&T has above-normal sea surface temperatures, which generally promotes warmer trade winds that blow over the islands.

It adds that El Niño conditions generally suppress cloud development over Trinidad and Tobago, which in turn results in a greater amount of direct sunshine.

On days with weak easterly to south-easterly winds, the TTMS says strong sunshine and high relative humidity in developed areas add together to produce a hot day.

This can lead to maximum temperatures about or over 34°C in Trinidad and about or over 33°C in Tobago.
