TTMS: rain a temporary break from hot weather

The Met Service says today’s rainy conditions are a temporary break from recent hot temperatures.

The TTMS recently issued a Yellow Level Hot Spell Alert, which is active for the entire month of October.

In an update to that Alert today, it says for the next several hours, rainfall and cloudy conditions will provide reprieve from the prevailing heat.

It adds however that a return to hot weather conditions is anticipated following this brief relief.

Additionally, it says such rainfall events are expected to occur less frequently than usual during the course of this month.

It reminds that during the month of October, daily temperatures in Trinidad are projected to reach approximately 34°C or higher, while Tobago is expected to experience around 33°C and above.

The hottest time of the day is between 10am and 4pm.

In cities, urban and built-up areas, maximum temperatures are expected to be higher than 34°C and “feel-like” temperatures will likely range between 34°C and 44°C.

It also informs that elevated temperatures, coupled with tropical moisture and light winds, are the primary drivers of intense, isolated daytime thunderstorms.
