TTMS monitoring area of low pressure in the Atlantic

The Met Service is monitoring an area of low pressure – AL96 – near the central Tropical Atlantic.

At 8am today, the low was located east of the southern Windward islands and moving westward.

The area of disturbed weather is currently producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions are however, marginally conducive for development over the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center has given the system a 30% chance of developing into a Tropical Depression over 48 hours and 60% over the next 7 days.

The TTMS says at this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad & Tobago, although moderate/heavy showers,  isolated thunderstorms and accompanying gusty winds are in the initial outlook for mid week.
