TTMS issues Hot Spell Watch – Yellow Level

The TTMS has issued a Yellow Level Hot Spell Watch.

Over the next five days, it says there is a high probability that daily maximum temperatures will reach or exceed 34°C in Trinidad and 33°C in Tobago.

The hottest time of the day is between 10am and 4pm.

The TTMS warns that maximum temperatures higher than 34°C are likely in cities, urban and built-up areas, while “feel-like” temperatures will likely range between 34°C and 44°C.

It adds while T&T has been experiencing hot days it is expected that the criteria for a Hot Spell, which is five consecutive hot days, is likely to be reached or exceeded in the coming days.

With the hot days also comes a warning for rain.

The TTMS says hot days combined with tropical moisture and light winds can result in the rapid development of strong thunderstorms and/or heavy showers, mainly during afternoons.

Although rainfall events may provide brief relief from hot conditions, warm nights are also likely.

The Hot Spell Watch is in place until 4pm on Monday, September 23rd 2024.
