The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an updated advisory urging the public to take precautionary measures ahead of expected thunderstorm activity later today.
Adverse Weather Alert #3 – Yellow Level states that there is a medium (60%) chance for isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms to develop today, increasing the risk of street flooding and landslides/landslips, particularly in areas with saturated soils.
At this time, major rivers are contained and below medium capacity, though levels may rise rapidly in the event of heavy rainfall.
Winds may become gusty in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms. These winds may further agitate sea conditions, displace loose outdoor items and even topple unstable trees.
The TTMS further advises persons in flood and landslide prone areas to remain alert, take precautions where necessary and monitor official updates throughout the day. Motorists and residents in flood-prone areas should avoid flooded areas and exercise caution. The public is advised to secure loose outdoor objects and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts.
