T&TEC says there is no generalised issue of low voltage problems on the electricity grid.
In a statement issued today, it took note of published statements suggesting that a systemic low voltage problem was being experienced across the country.
It acknowledged that voltage fluctuations occur from time to time.
However, it maintains that incoming reports are treated as an emergency and resolved within the requisite times stipulated by the Regulated Industries Commission.
It also explained that voltage fluctuations may have various triggers.
These include, from the customer’s side of the connection, sudden increases in their load, above what the building has been designed for, such as the installation of air condition units or other high load equipment and appliances.
It is encouraging persons to utilise the services of a licensed electrician before making such changes.
It is also advising persons who experience voltage fluctuations to make a formal report to T&TEC, so that an immediate investigation can be done.
Earlier today, Princes Town MP Barry Padarath issued a media statement saying he had received complaints from a number of constituents, as well as citizens from other areas about low voltages that resulted in damage to appliances and equipment.
