Power outages across the country this morning were due to issues with multiple generator units at Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The IPPs are responsible for supplying bulk electricity to T&TEC which issued a statement about today’s incident which affected persons in north, central and south Trinidad.

It says the system automatically shed customers to match the capacity available after the reduction in generation around 6:55am.

T&TEC says 20% of its customers were affected for about 35 minutes on average, with everyone back on supply by 7:41am.

It adds that IPPs are required to submit a report to T&TEC in the shortest possible timeframe.
