T&T has joined the Global Offshore Wind Alliance.
The official welcome came during the 15th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency in Abu Dhabi back in January 2025.
During this time, an official statement was given by Energy Advisor to the Energy Minister and Vice Chair of the Wind Energy Steering Committee for Trinidad and Tobago, Sheena Gosine.
She reportedly noted the importance of collaboration and partnerships to aid Small Island Developing States in wind deployment.
This sentiment was echoed by Minister Stuart Young, who pointed out that offshore wind has been identified as the key driver for the future green hydrogen economy.
GOWA’s objective is to act as a global driving force for an ambitious uptake of offshore wind and contribute to achieving a total offshore wind capacity of a minimum of 380 GW by 2030 and an installed capacity increase of at least 70 GW per year from 2030.
GW (gigawatt) is a unit of power and is equal to one billion watts.
GOWA currently consists of an alliance of around 30 countries and organizations, inclusive of governments, public and private sector entities.
