TT Chamber hopes for intervention by relevant parties in Guyana/Venezuela dispute

The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce is hoping for intervention by the relevant parties in the Guyana/Venezuela border dispute.

In a media release, the organization called the advances by Venezuela in its claim of the Essequibo region “concerning and unnerving.”

It believes that CARICOM and other similar entities must be involved to engage both countries and pave the way for discussions.

The Chamber says last Sunday’s referendum by Venezuela, despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice, should have signalled the need for urgent dialogue.

The Court had ordered that Venezuela take no action to modify the status quo regarding the administration of Essequibo.
