Tributes have been pouring in following the death of former US President Jimmy Carter who passed away at the age of 100.
Carter rose from humble beginnings as a peanut farmer and had one term in office from 1977 to 1981 which included brokering a landmark peace accord between Egypt and Israel.
In later life he became a worker for peace, the environment and human rights, for which he was recognised with a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
US President Joe Biden described Carter as “a man of principle, faith and humility,” while President-elect Donald Trump said Americans owe Carter a “debt of gratitude”.
