Dr. Roy Cape’s work in music is being described as “a labour of love” by Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Randall Mitchell.
The legendary musician passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
Mr Mitchell says Dr. Cape was not simply a musical icon, but “an Ambassador of all the remarkable things that our country signifies.”
He adds that with a career spanning over half a century, Dr. Cape represented and showcased the best of T&T’s talent, culture and musical offerings on an international scale.
Having founded and led the “Roy Cape All Stars”, Dr. Roy Cape was an accomplished saxophonist, arranger, composer and recording artiste.
In 2004, he received the Humming Bird National Award (Gold) “for loyal and devoted service to the nation”.
In 2011, he was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree by The University of the West Indies.
