Transport Minister Eli Zakour said the demerit point system remains in effect.

According to a Newsday report, Mr Zakour said this will be the case until the policy gets a negative resolution in parliament.

The report added that for a negative resolution to be passed or changed, the government would have to publish it in the gazette, however if opposition disagrees with the policy, a motion must be put in parliament to have it reversed.

During a post-cabinet press briefing on May 8th, the Prime Minister expressed plans to scrap the system, which came into effect in 2020.
