25 local police officers will be trained in the Mandarin language in a bid to bridge the gap between the TTPS and the Chinese community.
According to the police service, this initiative is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and was launched at Fui Toong On Association at Charlotte Street last Friday.
There will be in-person sessions covering speaking and cultural aspects for frontline and specialized police officers.
Chinese Ambassador Fang Qiu says the initiative would go a long way in helping the Chinese feel valued and safe, knowing they would be better understood by law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the police service said there is also a wider customer service training course being rolled out in every division and section of the TTPS.
