The trade unions’ demand for an increased minimum wage of $30 has been included in a letter to Finance Minister Colm Imbert.
The letter was delivered at the Financial Complex, Port of Spain this morning, and was signed by trade union leaders Ancel Roget, Michael Annisette of NATUC and FITUN President Joseph Remy.
The unions had called for a $30 minimum wage during Labour Day commemorations last month.
Meanwhile, the letter delivered today also included demands for a reduction in fuel prices, a delay in implementing property tax and removal of the national insurance penalty for retiring at age 60.
After delivering the letter, Mr Roget told media that government must act now to reduce the economic hardship being experienced by hundreds of thousands in T&T.
He expressed hope for a prompt response to their concerns.
