The Top Cop is moving to restrict the use of tactical uniforms by officers.

Police Commissioner Erla Christopher has issued an order that tactical gear be worn by only the Guard and Emergency Branch, Inter-Agency Task Force, National Operation Task Force and Multi Operational Police Section.

From tomorrow, all other units will be required to wear Patrol Order number 3, which is the gray and blue uniform.

The Top Cop’s memo says Departmental Order 282 of 2006 has been rescinded, with Divisional Commanders mandated to ensure tactical kits are returned to the Police Quarter Master Stores by next week, October 23rd 2024.

Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.

At a media conference today, DCP Junior Benjamin says the measure is the TTPS’ response to recent incidents involving fake police officers.
