A 3-year-old boy died in what police suspect may have been a case of arson.
According to reports, the boy’s mother had a confrontation with a man at her home on Christian Avenue Extension, Windy Hill, Arouca around 11:45pm yesterday.
She is said to have sought help from a relative living nearby, however by the time they returned to the house, it was ablaze.
The body of the little boy was later found in the debris.
The matter was raised during today’s TTPS briefing, with ACP Richard Smith promising to look into claims that the boy’s mother had filed a report against the man last week.
Meanwhile the TTPS says a video circulating online showing ACP Smith failing to reply to the question on the fire, is fake.
It says the video has been altered and does not accurately reflect the interaction that took place.
A statement from the Service says, “We also condemn the attempt by individuals to make our officers appear indifferent to questions from the media, as the TTPS maintains its commitment to be accountable to and transparent with the public in matters of crime fighting.”
