Tobago will get its own E999 police response system as part of new measures to combat growing crime on the island.
Today the National Security Council, headed by the Prime Minister, held a meeting in Tobago, to discuss these specific measures.
He hopes that by giving Tobago its own unit, police response times to crime reports will be quicker.
Dr. Rowley also says despite Trinidad having its own serious problems with policing, more officers from here will be deployed in Tobago.
The PM concluded that Tobago has issues with gangs that are not only from Trinidad, but originating from Tobago as well.
Meanwhile, The Police Commissioner added that Tobago’s officers will receive further training in intelligence gathering and investigations.
Tobago’s officers will also be deployed and trained amongst officers from Trinidad to broaden their skillsets.
