The Energy Ministry says Government has received information that the “Solo Creed’ tugboat may have been detained by authorities in Angola.
The boat was towing the ‘Gulfstream’ barge which overturned and began leaking a petrochemical substance into Tobago’s waters in February.
It was unaccounted for after the incident and was only indentified as officials sought to identify the ‘Gulfstream’.
Energy Minister Stuart Young has asked for official correspondence to be sent via the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Maritime Services Division of the Works and Transport Ministry, to Angolan authorities to verify certain information that has come to hand.
The Ministry says the Coast Guard is also helping to verify the location of the ‘Solo Creed’ and assures that Government is using use all resources at its disposal to determine and locate those responsible for the spill.
