TEMA is again urging persons to volunteer to help clean up the oil spill impacting Tobago.
Work has been continuing since last week Wednesday, when an overturned vessel began spilling an oil-like substance into the water near Cove.
TEMA shared a testimonial from one person who explained that “𝑽𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒅 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒊𝒍. As of yesterday, the spill extended from the west to the northwest into the Caribbean Sea, with noticeable oil weathering beginning around 18km from the source.
TEMA however said there were no indications of oil entering the Western or Northern Coasts of Tobago at that time.
Large amounts of oil have washed ashore in some places and efforts are continuing to contain the spill and clean the impacted areas.
