IN recent years, there has been a growing trend in Trinidad and Tobago among drivers to upgrade their vehicle’s headlights to LED bulbs for improved brightness and visibility on the road.
While this may seem like a simple and beneficial upgrade, there are significant dangers associated with using after-market LED headlight bulbs without the safety cut-off line.
One of the primary concerns with after-market LED bulbs is their potential to produce excessive glare, which can blind oncoming drivers and cause accidents.
Unlike traditional halogen bulbs, LED bulbs emit a much brighter and concentrated light, which can be particularly problematic when installed in headlights not designed to accommodate them.
Without the safety cut-off line, the light beam pattern can become scattered and unfocused, leading to hazardous glare for other road users.
I urge the authorities to either amend existing laws or enforce them rigorously if they already exist. Together, let’s take action to make our roads safer for everyone.
